Flying Fox Studios COVID-19 Response and Plan

Restrictions announced in QLD 22nd August 2020

On August 22nd new restrictions were announced in QLD relating to gatherings in a home and outdoor setting. As Flying Fox Studios is a business already operating under a strict COVID-safe industry plan we are not impacted by these new restrictions.

All classes and workshops will continue as planned until further notice.

Our Flying Fox Studios team is currently working harder than ever to ensure a safe and clean studio environment. This includes changes to class entry and exit procedures, hand sanitiser applied on entry to classes, individual class resources used whenever possible, regular cleaning of all shared spaces and waiting spaces. Rest assured we are doing all we can to continue lessons for your kids!


Term 1 2020 classes and Term 1 make up lessons:

 

5.6.20 Update: We are so excited to be welcoming back some of our students from Term 1, as we complete week 8 and week 9 of our originally planned Term 1 program (only three months later!) These lessons will run June 15th to June 27th. If you were enrolled in classes in Term 1 2020, and have not seen our emails with all the details about these make up classes, please check your inbox.
With some on-site changes, a COVID safe plan in place, and a huge amount of effort from our whole team, we are SO excited to take these steps to re-open!

2.6.20 Update: We are currently exploring the option of running the final two weeks of Term 1 classes when we are permitted to have 20 people on our premises at one time, and our insurance has let us know it is ok for us to proceed with an approved COVID safe plan in place. When we are able to confirm the required departments on our COVID safe checklist (local government, industry and insurance) we will notify students of dates we hope to run these missed classes. We are hoping to be able to re-run the last two weeks of Term 1 in the last two weeks of June.

All classes were suspended effective 25.03.20 as non-essential social gathering restrictions are increased. Please check your inbox 26/3/20 if you have a booking for Term 1, or for our April school holiday workshop program.



Term 2 2020 bookings.

1.06.20 - All Term 2 bookings were automatically moved to Term 3 on April 17th. There have been no changes to this plan, with all classes returning as expected on Monday July 20th. Class reminder emails will be sent 7 days before Term 3 begins.

11.5.20 Update. As the QLD state government has now released the roadmap to businesses re-opening, we anticipate our classes and workshops will all be able to return as planned in July. We will be facilitating a COVID safe work environment, and so some changes to classroom entry and exit procedures (such as we used in March 2020) may still be in place. Due to the unique layout of our studio and classrooms, we offer ample outside waiting space as well as multiple entry and exit points to high traffic areas. Hand sanitizer has been available in all classrooms and entry points since February 2020, and will continue to remain available.

17.4.20 Update: We have made the difficult decision, due to social distancing restrictions being in place for a future 5 weeks at least, to postpone our Term 2 program to Term 3. If you have a current booking, please check your email inbox (and spam / junk folders) for an email sent April 17th. All

Term 3 classes will begin Monday July 20th.

10/4/20 Update: At this stage we are taking advice day by day, as everyone is aware this is an ever changing situation. There is a strong possibility that we will not be permitted to re-open for a large part of Term 2 due to social distancing restrictions remaining in place. Should this be the case will look at moving our entire Term 2 program to Term 3, while our business follows the hibernation period set down by the government.  This means any planned Term 2 classes will move forward (same day / time / teacher) to Term 3, and then continue on to finish the unit. We wanted to let everyone know this is the potential plan, should the need arise. It's such a fast changing situation we have so far implemented Plan A, B, C etc and I have no doubt there are more plans to come, however one thing we do know is that we cannot wait to be back!


 

April / July Holiday Workshop 2020 bookings.

Please note: As a result of COVID-19, our April school holiday workshop program was postponed to July 2020. We have very much appreciated the full support of so many of our enrolled students who have been amazing through this difficult time for small businesses such as ours.

All students who had a booking to attend our April program, as notified via email on the 25.3.20, have had their bookings transferred to our new July dates.

If you need to make changes to your transferred booking, it is essential you contact us as soon as possible, preferably at least three weeks prior to the start of our July program. 

Workshops that had an Easter theme (e.g. Watercolour Easter has been adjusted to be Watercolour Winter) will run as the same style of workshop, with a slight change to the project focus.

We have been able to add one extra day of workshops to our July program (Friday July 10th) that was not originally included in our April program.

Changes to our classroom spaces, workshops size limits and COVID-19 safe workplace practices will all be followed.

 



Many people have asked us about online delivery. Please see below;
Our Kindermusik classes moved to a digital classroom for final two weeks of Term 1, and will have a digital offering throughout Term 2. Any digital classes attended do not replace any face to face classes you have missed, as we completely appreciate an online classroom is a different environment to a face to face class experience.

 


Our Art and STEM curricula have been developed at Flying Fox Studios over the last 13 years. The program relies on a wide variety of specialised materials and hands on resources, that change weekly, and is one of the reasons why our classes are so unique and well regarded. Unfortunately this does not translate well to online delivery (despite our many, many hours of trying to solve this), as most families only have access to a limited number of these resources.
For this reason, should we need to, we will look at moving our Term 2 enrolments to Term 3 rather than offering Term 2 as online delivery.

However we would still love to support all our students creative development while at home, and we will continue, throughout Term 2, to offer our range of free online art and building challenges, that are best able to use more simple resources that most families will have access to at home.

In addition to this we are currently developing short course curriculum, that can be delivered online, and will be linked with a home resource pack available for purchase. More details on this to come.

 


 

We recognize this is a difficult time for all, and we remain deeply committed to our customers, staff members, and local community. We have been through unexpected closures before, and while we have not had a situation of the scale and impact that we are seeing currently, it is part of our planning, with the main outcome of our scheduling being that you won't miss any face to face classes you have paid for, and we will do our best to limit disruptions to our classes.

As a small business that has spent the past 13 years dedicated to extracurricular activities for our local community, we will get through this, and thoroughly appreciate your support.
