Free Trial Class

Free Trial Class

We would love to invite you to come along and attend a free trial class in one of our term length programs. To book in for a trial lesson, please phone or email our office and our team will allocate a day and time for you to come along and try out one lesson. All class times, prices and unit descriptions can be found on our individual class pages.

Please read below for some of our most frequently asked questions, they might help you decide which class is best suited for your child.

Important Information

When attending a trial lesson, we ask that you please keep in mind:

  • It’s really important to arrive before your class begins. Many children can feel hesitant about entering the classroom and joining in once a lesson is already underway, particularly when they are attending for the first time.
  • Arriving early allows your child to enter with the other students, settle into the space and be there for the beginning of the lesson. This can make a big difference to their enjoyment of the class and confidence attending a class if their adult doesn't attend with them.
  • If you have booked a trial and are running late, please let us know rather than rushing in. We’ll be happy to reschedule your trial for another day so your child can experience the class from the very beginning.

It's just a snapshot and not the whole picture. It's the beginning!

  • Your trial lesson is just a 45 or 60-minute snapshot of a much larger program. Our classes form part of an 8-week unit, within a curriculum that typically develops over three years. Each lesson is designed as part of that bigger picture rather than as a stand-alone class.
  • This means your trial may not include every element you were expecting to see. For example, you may have expected more drawing, painting, instruments or a particular type of activity. These elements may have featured in previous lessons or may be coming up later in the term - they simply may not be the focus of the particular lesson you are attending.
  • A single trial gives your child a chance to experience the classroom, meet their teacher and get a feel for how the class works, but it won’t necessarily showcase everything they will experience across a full term or the broader program.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which classes can I attend a free trial lesson for? We offer free trial lessons in any of our term length kids programs, Kindermusik, Fox Blocks STEM , or Art Classes. Free trial lessons are not available in our school holiday workshop program.
  • What week of term can I book a free trial lesson in? Free trial lessons are offered from the second week of any term. We do not offer any free trial lessons in the first week of a new term as this is when all term home resources are allocated / handed out to enrolled students.
  • I am interested in more than one program (e.g. Art and Kindermusik), can I book a trial lesson in more than one class? Absolutely! We would love to to find your child's best fit so many students try out multiple classes.
  • My child is outside the age range listed on your site for the class we wish to trial, can we still book a lesson for them? We do not offer 'out of age' enrolments' for any students at Flying Fox Studios. For students under school age we offer a 4 week grace period for kids close to our age cut off. All school age students can only attend a class in the grade they are currently attending.
  • I would like to watch the class my child is attending, can I sit in on the lesson? At Flying Fox Studios, part of our child safety policy covers children attending classes with adults in the classroom (other than Flying Fox Studios staff). For this reason, adults are able to attend the lesson with their child in our Kindermusik Village (0-18 months), Kindermusik Our Time (18 months to 3.5 years) Scribblers Art (2 to 5 years). For students in older classes we ask adults to wait just outside the classroom while the session is in progress. Please reach out to our staff if you have further questions about this, or circumstances for your child outside these listed classes.
  • My child may not participate, is that ok? Of course! We are all often anxious when trying new things and being a little unsure about joining a new group of people is perfectly understandable. Young children may run laps of the classroom, but don't stress... we have all been there! Older children may be anxious about joining a class of students they don't know (and who already may know each other). As a parent, you may even be a little unsure yourself about where to go, what to do etc. Rest assured, all our staff are happy to help out, help students feel comfortable in class, and help adults feel relaxed in our space. Please keep in mind that many students are often unsettled during a first try of something. This can be surprising for adults, especially when it's an activity they usually love. This is typically not a reflection of the class / teacher / other students. This is all part of the settling in process trying something new, and taking a first step into joining a new program.
  • The age group I am interested is fully booked, can I still come to a trial lesson? Yes, you can! Some of our classes are in high demand, and are often fully booked shortly after a new enrolment period opens. In all our classes we reserve two spots for current students to book as a make up lesson, or for new students to book for a free trial class. If you are interested in coming along to one of our fully booked age groups, please reach out as we may be still able to offer a lesson.
  • Does a trial lesson booking guarantee a spot in that class for the term? No, a free trial booking does not reserve a place in class for any other date than your booked lesson, and does not guarantee we have a place reserved for your child in class for the term.
  • If my child enjoys the lesson, can we join partway through the term? Of course! So long as there is still a term spot still available in the class, then our fees will be adjusted on a pro rata basis. We don't have a membership fee, so you only pay for the lessons remaining in your unit.
