Workshop Title Age Descriptions for January 2025 STEAMKids® School Holiday Workshops
Bloom: Watercolour Garden 6 to 12 years

Watercolour paints and flowers are made for each other! Enjoy learning about watercolour painting and the amazing things you can do. Realistic or fantastic. Paint 3 different watercolour artworks with a variety of watercolour paints, including Ecoline brush markers and water pens.

Boho Style Canvas Art 8 to 14 years

This canvas artwork will feature colours and designs, faces and fashion that is the boho style. Choose a pre-drawn design, select your colour palette, then paint up your canvas with acrylic paints.

Canvas Art: Crystal Castle 6 to 12 years

Welcome to the Crystal Castle, a wondrous destination and the perfect place to paint. Capture colour, light and texture as you develop your painting skills using acrylic paints, stencils and a variety of techniques to paint your crystal castle canvas.

Concept Art: Winged Warriors 10 to 15 years

Bring your warriors to life. This is a skills development workshop featuring drawing techniques for fantasy characters. Using a 3D mannequin with wings, learn how to draw a variety of poses. Includes techniques for drawing wings, robes and armour and adding layers of colour. Using alcohol markers, graphite and inks.

Down the Nile Crocodile 4 to 7 years

Journey with us down the Nile to Ancient Egypt. Discover secrets from the Valley of the Kings. Hear about the mummy's curse. Build a pyramid and solve the mystery of how-enter. Wrap your own mummy and make a sarcophagus for a king. Music, craft, history, and fun.

Draw More: Lion Kings 6 to 12 years

Have you watched generations of Lion Kings? This art based workshop includes drawing and painting inspired by our favourite African kings. Learn to draw lions in action and at rest. Learn to use acrylic paints and paint pens to complete your own canvas artwork.

Drawing Dragons: Wings of Fire 8 to 12 years

We'll be drawing mythical dragons in this workshop! Try lots of ideas and techniques. Step by step, draw dragons twisting and turning as they fly high. Look closely into their eyes. Add colour with paint and a variety of markers.

Drawn to Nature 4 to 7 years

Nature has treasures to discover and draw. A leaf, flower, a feather, a tree, rock or interesting creature. Look closely. We’ll draw, press, stick and rub. Make a small sketchbook to record your observations. Lots of drawing and making in this nature inspired workshop.

Energy Quest: Solar Science 6 to 12 years

Come along and join the quest as we search for sustainable solar solutions. We will start by understanding the basics of solar cells, then we will make a solar racer move by harnessing the power of the sun. Photons and electricity, sunlight and speed, the super solar energy quest starts here!

Fan Art Anime 8 to 14 years

Inspired by the world of Anime, this drawing workshop is suitable for fans, beginners and the more experienced. Lots of tips to help you draw favourite characters and poses. Build your confidence in choosing and using colour. Using acrylic paint recreate an anime character on canvas for display.

Jaw-Some Shark Science 5 to 10 years

Care to dip into some science with a difference? We'll dive into the world of marine life and focus on one of the most fearsome fish, the Shark! How do they move? What do they eat? Where do they live? All this and more in this jaws-one STEAM experience for all.

Koi Pond: Acrylic Canvas 8 to 14 years

These colourful fish, with their rich history, are fantastic to capture as young artists. Learn to draw the swimming fish. Paint up your original canvas artwork, layer by layer, using acrylic paints and a variety of brushes and other tools.

Light Lab Colour Science 5 to 10 years

Optical science is back on the table as we attempt to dissect light in this fun workshop for the junior scientist. We will split colour to see what comes out, try our hand at some different ways to combine colour, and try to understand the relationship between light and shade from the very small to a solar scale.

Lost Cities of Lego: Atlantis 6 to 12 years

Adventuring like a minifig, searching for lost cities, and treading carefully like a Tomb Raider. This is what the Lego Lost Cities is all about! We'll create Temples with traps, vehicles with treasure hunting modifications, and more as we search our imaginations for the best ways to hide the coolest treasures in one of the most mysterious locations in legend.

Mad for Minecraft 6 to 12 years

If you are Mad for Minecraft, you'll be stoked with this snapshot. Together, we will bring the virtual into the real world as we see the similarities, discuss the differences, and make some Minecraft madness. Get some sleep, avoid the creepers, and we'll see you soon at workshop spawn.

Mad Machines: Junior Engineer 4 to 7 years

Have you ever heard of a Motor-copter? How about an aero-scooter? That's what mad machines is all about. Let your imagination fly as we play games and build machine creations you can take home. It's going to be mad!

Mermaid Summer Sparkle 4 to 7 years

Our mermaid friends love new Summer fashions with bright sparkly Summer colours. This classic art and craft workshop features sturdy mermaid paper dolls. We’ll design and make outfits and accessories for our mermaid friends and beautiful matching necklaces for you and your mermaid friend.

Mouse Hunt Tricky Traps 4 to 7 years

There's a mouse in the house and he's eating all the food. Join us on the hunt as we play games, and build some silly mouse trap mechanisms. We'll also consult our blueprints and build our own Rube Goldberg style mouse trap to save the food!

Painting Magic: Colours of Summer 4 to 7 years

Splat, squish, and ooze. Things are not always what they seem. There are strange things to find. Make some amazing artworks with a riot of colourful paint. Make artworks to share with your friends.

Paper Marbling Magic 5 to 10 years

The art of marbling is an ancient art. Inks or paints are floated on water and then lifted off onto paper producing magical swirly patterns. Come and try it for yourself. It's a lot of fun. Take home some amazing paper.

Prime Suspect 6 to 12 years

We are looking for a group of keen detectives to solve a puzzling mystery. Come along and practice the art of the detective, uncover hidden clues, and narrow down the possibilities. We'll interview suspects, comb the scene, join the dots, and solve a crime. Do you have what it takes to catch a crook? See you at the scene.

Sandpit Science 4 to 7 years

Today, we are bringing the sandpit inside to Engineer, Create, make, and discover the science of the sandpit. There is so much more to sand than meets the eye, and this workshop will begin to open your eyes to the truth. Sand art, sand moulding, and sand experiments are just the beginning of what is sure to be the start of something sand-a-riffic.

Sketch Up: Future Cities 10 to 15 years

Whether your interest is in realistic or fantasy genres, this is extreme sketching. Learn to create a unique viewpoint by stretching perspective using grids. Simple methods will give you techniques and tools to take your sketching to another dimension. Develop a coloured artwork of your future city.

Squishmallow's Rainbow World 4 to 7 years

Do you love rainbows and squishmallows? Celebrate your squishy friends by painting a rainbow world for them to play in. In this fun art based workshop we’ll squeeze, squish, drip and drizzle with a rainbow of bright colours.

The Convention of Curious Kids 5 to 10 years

Come along to the Convention of curious kids and get ready for mind-bending exploration. Uncover mysteries, conduct wacky experiments, and dive into the unknown. Join us for hands-on fun that fuels curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning. Let's satisfy those curious minds together!

The Pixies' Beach House 5 to 10 years

The mischievous pixies are designing and building a new little beach house. They have collected lots of things to make windows, doors, walls and a roof. Now to add fun! Tunnels and slides, ladders and hatches, maybe even a trap or two. Take home your new beach house and wait for the pixies to visit.

The Third Dimension 6 to 12 years

It's about time we made it here. The third dimension is mysterious, beautiful, and has so much depth! We'll create a clever 3-D artwork, investigate hologram technology, and learn to draw using all 3 dimensions at our disposal. We will stretch imaginations and show again how maths and art can beautifully work together.

The Trick of the Brick 6 to 12 years

What do you get when Lego meets magic? A workshop that builds suspense and mesmerises more than mere minifigs! We'll practice palming, build a puzzle box, and design a magic show where the trick is all in the brick!

Wonder World Engineering 5 to 10 years

In the world of Engineering, there are many wonderous creations. Do you wonder why they were made, how they still stand, or where they can be found? We will visit the Eiffel Tower, the Petronas Twin Towers, and Taipei 101 to see the wonder, find the common threads, and build a wonderous creation of our own.
