Descriptions for DECEMBER 2024 STEAMKids® School Holiday Workshops
* Christmas World Tour! 12 Days, 12 Stops! 5 to 10 years All aboard the holiday express! In this festive adventure, we’ll travel the world to see how Christmas is celebrated from the North Pole to the beaches of Brazil! Each stop brings new crafts, games, or tasty treats. Christmas lantern parades in the Philippines, dancing to African Christmas beats, and so much more! Pack your imagination, because this holiday journey is packed with laughter, fun facts, and a bit of global magic.
* Reindeer Rocket Science 6 to 12 years Strap in, junior engineers, it's time to help Santa go supersonic! In this high-flying workshop, we will learn the science behind propulsion and build mini “reindeer rockets” to zoom through the air. We’ll experiment, construct, and test to see how fast we can launch Santa’s sleigh into the sky. Prepare for reindeer laughs, and some seriously awesome Christmas cheer!
* The Gingerbread Shed 6 to 12 years A very Australian take on decorating your gingerbread. Walk down the candy path to your delicious mini gingerbread shed. He shed or She shed? Themed? Artist’s studio? Garden shed? Add a shed full of yummy lolly tools and projects. Wrap and take home your Gingerberad Shed to enjoy at Christmas.
* The Little Christmas Market 4 to 7 years Welcome to our Little Christmas market. It sells the most amazing things. Yummy food, toys, gifts, clothes and more. There'll be music and buskers. This is a classic art and craft based workshop making things for our stalls. Come along and shop.
12 Days of Minecraft 6 to 12 years On the first day of minecraft, my seed gave to me... the wood from a grand oak tree. Come along and write the rest of the song, create a Minecraft advent calendar, and have a whole lot of Minecraft fun in this alternate take on a Christmas classic. Creepers need not apply!
A Starry Starry Christmas 6 to 12 years We’ll design and up a paint a canvas full of starry lights inspired by Vincent’s iconic artwork. We’ll add a Christmassy focus as you paint up your canvas and complete the picture with strings of LED lights. Your Christmas display will be amazing.
A String Art Christmas 8 to 12 years At fist glance, Christmas and string may not seem to fit. On closer inspection, as patterns begin to appear, Christmas will become stringy and fun. First, we'll give you the tools to create your own line art, then the 2-D will become 3-D as we create some beautiful stringy art for Christmas.
A Writers Tale: One Wild Christmas 8 to 12 years Imagine. Christmas woke early last year..... This is a writing with illustration workshop for those who like to craft an exciting story. You will begin with story prompts drawn by Janet. Take your story in its own wild direction to make it your own. Develop skills and confidence in story crafting and take home your story to share.
Art Foundations: Paint Pen Art 8 to 14 years Explore the possibilities of using acrylic paint pens in your artwork. They come in a wide variety of colours and sizes can paint on many different surfaces, making them very versatile. In this workshop you’ll complete 3 small projects, each on a different surface. Tips on caring for and cleaning your pens. You'll never run out of creative ways to use them.
Art to Glow 6 to 12 years Art made for the dark. In this workshop we’ll use colours that glow under ultraviolet light. Draw and paint your canvas using paints, markers and tapes that will glow in the dark. Make a lantern featuring glow in the dark beads and strings. Includes a blacklight torch to take home.
Dinosaurs Night Before Christmas 4 to 7 years ‘Twas the night before Christmas, all was quiet, no chorus! Not a creature was stirring, not even a Brachiosaurus! The stockings were hung by the volcano with care, In hopes that Santa-Rex soon would be there. Come along to stomp, roar, craft, and prepare for Christmas the dinosaur way. A workshop millions of years in the making.
Forensic Frenzy: Who Stole Christmas? 5 to 10 years We need our best agents on the job. In the ultimate case of "Who done it", someone has stolen Christmas! If you would like to know the answers to "who?", "what?", "when?", "why?", "where?", and "how?", you will have to join the gang and get on the case. If we ever hope to find who stole Christmas, we'll need to look for clues, ponder the puzzle, and analyse the evidence. All in a day's work for a junior detective!
Glass Art: Whale Song 8 to 14 years For fans of glass art. These artworks are amazing to display. Draw up your whale design, choose your colours, then transfer your image to a clear acrylic panel. This workshop will take you through the process and techniques of painting on glass or clear acrylic. Take home your framed glass artwork.
Gotta Catch Em' All! 5 to 10 years If you want to be the very best, you need to have the right materials. If you want to catch 'em all, you need to think about all the angles. Come along to design and build a catching contraption for our favourite little pocket monsters. Once you have mastery of the machine, you will have everything you need to catch more!
Hoop Art: Paint & Stitch Christmas 10 to 15 years Be inspired by painted and stitched samples. Paint your fabric background in your chosen colour scheme. Learn the basics of embroidery as you learn the stitches. Take away your Christmas themed hoop mounted artwork.
Jingle Bell Jam 4 to 7 years Calling all little elves, snowflakes, and reindeer! In this joyful, jingling musical workshop, we will shake, rattle, and roll our way through holiday classics. We’ll craft our own instruments and get groovy with musical games. Expect lots of giggles, wiggles, and jingles as we create our own holiday band! Let's make some noise and spread some cheer!
Kookaburra Christmas 6 to 12 years Listen as the Kookaburras join the excitement of Christmas morning. They are the adorable subjects for our art in this class. Learn to draw these happy birds with easy steps. Paint 2 artworks using a variety of drawing media, paints and paint pens. Your artworks will be ready to display as you decorate for Christmas.
Lego Life on Mars 6 to 12 years Get ready to blast off to the Red Planet in this intergalactic workshop—Lego style! We will be building Martian bases, designing rovers, and growing "space veggies" using all our engineering skills and Lego, of course. Bring your space helmets (or imagination), because it's gonna be a bumpy (and brick-filled) ride to Mars!
Lego Magic Building Christmas 6 to 12 years Take your brick building to another level as we get festive with Lego this Christmas. We'll learn about selecting just the right block for the situation and building within the bigger picture. Whether you are a beginner with Lego or a black-belt builder, you will leave with new ideas for use with your own Lego collections as well as a Lego decoration for your tree at home.
Pixie Science: Just Add Water 4 to 7 years Pixies are curious little creatures who love to explore their world. Try science based crafting. Water is the key ingredient. Mix up a fizzy drink, play with water beads and make some oozy squishy slimy potions. Includes simple experiments that are always fun. Great for busy, curious pixie friends.
Rudolph's Science Party 4 to 7 years There is talk of a reindeer with a shiny red nose, which lights the way wherever he goes. He helps out Santa one night every year, then hosts a party full of christmas cheer. This Science workshop is for those who want to know, about reactions and solutions and things that glow!
Snow Globe Science 6 to 10 years Come along and step into a world where science meets snow! In this hands-on workshop for young scientists, we will create magical snow globes, make snowflakes dance, and bubbles fizz. We will dip into density and lean into liquids to make some cool crafts as it heats up outside.
Space is Awesome! 4 to 7 years Calling all space enthusiasts! Join us for an out-of-this-world adventure. Explore planets, meet friendly aliens, and create your own rocket ships. Through play and discovery, we'll ignite a love for the cosmos and spark imaginative journeys to the stars!
Squishmallow's Rainbow World 4 to 7 years Do you love rainbows and squishmallows? Celebrate your squishy friends by painting a rainbow world for them to play in. In this fun art based workshop we’ll squeeze, squish, drip and drizzle with a rainbow of bright colours.
Star Light, Star Bright 4 to 7 years An arty crafty maker workshop with bright starry things. Shiny and sparkly paints and papers to use. We'll make a bright glass art star, your own star bag tag and a beaded starlight catcher.
Summer Nights & Christmas Lights 6 to 12 years Paint your own canvas artwork featuring LED lights. There will be a number of themes to choose from. Will you choose a firefly theme, decorated tree or traditional Christmas scene? We’ll use acrylic paints and add a string of LED lights to complete. Take it home to light up the night at your place.
Summer Sketchbook: Draw & Paint 8 to 14 years Out and about over Summer you’ll find lots of things to draw and paint. Take your sketchbook with you and sharpen your observational drawing skills. Use pencils, markers, charcoal and paint pens. Take home your own sketchbook filled with Summer prompts.
The Christmas Caravan 4 to 7 years The Elves are decorating their caravans ready for Christmas! A small world workshop for crafty tiny world fans. Inside our caravan we’ll add the comforts of home, add a tiny Christmas tree with decorations and mini presents. Add Christmas sparkle to the outside and you’re ready for your holiday! Take home your caravan and wait for tiny visitors!
The Christmas Eve Box 5 to 10 years Make a Christmas Eve box full of fun things to do on Christmas Eve. This is a classic art and craft workshop. Decorate your box and make it mysterious. Add things for making, games to play, treats to eat and a story for sharing.
The Spinning Machine 4 to 7 years Do you enjoy investigating, questioning, and exploring? In this workshop, we will take a closer look at a spinning machines and notice how their components need to work together in balance. Forces, gears, pulleys, and plenty more that will send you dizzy!
Wood Artistry Christmas 8 to 14 years Pyrography is the art of drawing with a heated pen. Blend wood burning, carving and painting techniques and designs to decorate small wooden gifts and decorations. Introduction to simple carving and wood burning techniques. Suitable for beginners.
Gingerbread House Workshop Adults Join us for our annual Gingerbread House workshop, a fun evening of Christmas creativity and sugar! In this workshop, we will assemble a gourmet gingerbread house (no cooking required!), then decorate and wrap ready to take home. Will you choose a colour theme, a pattern, a chocolate theme, or another a house style? Bring your ideas with you and get ready to unleash your inner builder and lolly designer. Cost is $66 Per Person.

Gingerbread House Workshop | Family / Groups Groups of 4 We are excited to see the return of our Gingerbread House Family Workshop. Due to space restrictions, numbers for this workshop will be very limited and family / groups on a single booking need to be no more than 4 people. If you have more than 4, please book two spots. Each booking will make one Gingerbread house per group. Cost: $66 per family (up to 4 people per table) which includes everything you need to build, decorate and wrap one Gingerbread house. We recommend this event for families with children aged over 3 years.
